Thunderbird attachments

When I receive an e-mail with a photo attached, the photo shows also in the body of the e-mail - in other words, when I scroll down below the written message there is the photo.
Is this the normal way Thunderbird behaves or have I got a setting wrong somewhere?

A lot of email clients do that. Outlook (or Entourage as it's called there) does that by default on the Mac.

It can be turned off. It's called attachment inline. Open Thunderbird then click on view. Go down to display attachment inline. If it's ticked that means the attachment will be displayed in the body of message also. If you untick it,the attachment will not be in body of message. You then have to click the attachment to show it. I think this applies only to jpg etc.
