Hi Diodorus Siculus
Thanks for the reply. I have downloaded the English Dictionary and it said that it was installed. I restarted the computer but it doe's not seem to work, I assume that the spell checker works in the same way as other checkers,by automatically checking the page or am I wrong.

Yep, same here, installed it several times but does not appear, followed installation instructions to the letter but all I have is English US in the dropdown box.(using v2.0.0.0)

How to Install in Thunderbird

1. Right-click the link below and choose "Save Link As..." to download and save the file to your hard disk.
2. In Mozilla Thunderbird, open Add-ons from the Tools menu.
3. Click the Install button, and locate/select the file you downloaded and click "OK".

I had missed the "right-click" bit in the first instruction. All works now.

I think Diodorus Siculus link is misleading us at the beginning of this thread(sorry)

If you open thunderbird and go to tools>Options>composition and the spelling tab, you will see a link that says Download more dictionaries which will give you this click here

I have just installed the English (British) dictionary which now appears in the dropdown box as English/United kingdom and if you go to the ad ons the dictionary appears as British English dictionary v1.19. Your instructions on the install are correct.

Using Thunderbird v2.0.04
