I have just taken delivery of my first DVD burner
LG 4082B
I tried it out with 4GB of data on a DVD-R.
It uses all the resources on the machine and locks me out until the recording is complete.
The recorded data is fine but is this normal or do I not have it set up correctly?

dazzling&Agent Smith I was originally going to buy a Sony but was persuaded to go for LG.
I have always sworn by Sony and perhaps I should have stuck with them.

you shouldn't use your computer while burning a DVD or CD. Doing so will greatly increase the chance of an error

Depends what you have set your writer software to do. Rendering from say, AVI to MPEG to DVD takes up a lot of resources and is best left on its own to do its thing. Interruptions in the data flow can easily cause crashes and, in such a long drawn out process, wastes a lot of time in doing that.

You should also shut down all unnecessary programs as well.

Thing to do is leave it going overnight if you can.
