Thin Client/Thick Client Network

I have a main system running on a thick client basis with a request to add 4 workstations which link to an external server on a thin client basis. These additional workstations are to bet cabled through our network switch and using part of our bandwidth.

There is no obvious link to our main server. Is it sufficient to rely on anti-virus and firewall software on the thin client server or should I insist that each of the additional workstations is separately protected?

There is no harm in installing additional protection of each of the client machines, peace of mind really.
