Is there an alternative to Microsoft Publisher?

I am particularly looking for free software, similar to Open Office and Foxit reader, that is able to save in various formats and is compatible with existing files saved in Publisher format.

I am fairly sure that Serif PagePlus cannot open Publisher files. It can open pdf and you can export Publisher in this format with the 2007 version.

There is a free desktop publishing program, it's Serif PagePlus click here the problem is that both Publisher and PagePlus use proprietary file formats and are incompatible. I don't think there is anything else that will touch Publisher files. Microsoft don't do a free Publisher viewer and their advice to anybody wanting to read one is download a trial of Publisher. click here
