text size in vista

with a 24" monitor and resolution of 1920x1200 i can adjust font size but how do i increase text size in various applications so that i can read it? can anyone advise me please? thanks.

Start in Control Panel and type Adjust font size in the Search box at the top right, which will take you directly to the link for the DPI Scaling utility . The preset value of 120 DPI is too big for my taste, so I click the Custom DPI button and use the slider control to bump the size up to a more restrained 110 DPI. Feel free to experiment.
