When I key text in Word there is a delay of several seconds (Hourglass displayed) before text appears on screen. This has only developed recently... Any ideas gents?

In Word, Help/Detect and Repair.

If that doesn't work it is possible that the default document template has become corrupt. Quit Word. Search for NORMAL.DOT - you will need to turn on "Search hidden files and folders" under "More advanced options" in Search.

You may find more than one NORMAL.DOT - rename them all to ABNORMAL.DOT

Start Word - it will recreate a new NORMAL.DOT

If that doesn't work, rename ABNORMAL.DOT back to NORMAL.DOT and post back.

Do you have a lot of programs open and active?

When did you last do a disk cleanup, empty the recycle bin and defragmentation? Failure to do these housekeeping tasks regularly can bung up the works and cause a slowing doen of the system.

Thanks both for the response. Housekeeping is done on a regular basis Pops so we'll get to looking at the Y0G's template area suggestion, but not until Tues when back in the office...
Shall keep the thread open untill after then.

that the probable cause is file corruption in Office. It's certainly worth forcing Word to create a new version of NORMAL.DOT in any case.

Yes, problem resolved though not without initial hassle on the Detect and Repair feature before discovering its Restore Defaults check box.
All is fine now. Thanks to all...
