Tesco, Asda and other outlets merely re-badge products from specialist manufacturers (just as the top brands do).

Some info on disk media quality and who produces and who re-badges what:

Personally, I always buy Taiyo Yuden media, whether under its own name or re-badged by top brand names - it has been the leading manufacturer for several decades of such products.

Maxell, although a cheaper brand, hasn't let me down yet in CDs or DVDs. Oldest at beginning 2005 and still loads.

is a useful bit of software for finding out the real manufacturer of rebranded DVD discs. It also gives the technical details such as Dye type etc.

I've used Maxell blank audio tape and VHS tape for several decades - it has always been a quality brand name.

One of its most memorable television adverts was one that claimed it could record Ella Fitzgerald's voice on audio tape and this was played back to eventually "shatter" a wine glass.

No doubt poetic licence, but certainly helped sales...:-)

i only use verbatim discs, [even a specific code for DVD+R] those and taiyo yuden [as stuartli] uses are the 2 best brands

Would you be kind enough to advise how it is possible to recognise this brand if marketed under another brand name.
