temporary internet files in windows directory

  silliw 17:50 02 Jan 05

just ran avast antivirus scanner which took nearly two hours due to temp internet files located in windows folder. Cleared all temp files using internet options for each user but ie5 folder is still full of folders and more temp files.

Is it safe to clear these as they consume nearly 400mb and how is it best to do this.

My system is running xp pro.

Use this for each account

easy and safe. Will also clean registry if you scan for issues.

be infront of ie5 folder?
(but ie5 folder is still full of folders and more temp files)

Temporary files are as named as such to be deleted.Having as you state 400mb left after cleaning would concern me unless there was a explanation for them being there. Internet options will not clear out all folders and if the content ie5 folder with 400mb is located in the c:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\LocalSettings\Temporary Internet Files i would have a good look at them for a Possible trojan downloader etc. Before i deleted them as a matter of course.
