Tautology bandwidth meter

I use this program but, how accurate is it. Today it is showing 8.11 GB usage!!! This I find incredible especially as I am still on a 512 BB connection and have been away from the computer for most of the day.
Breakdown:

In 4.2 GB
Out 3.89 GB

AV scan shows nothing, nor do various antispy scans.

I know I have downloaded about 600 M, mostly during the early hours and have not uploaded any files.

A 600 MB download plus normal surfing can hardly add up to 8.11 GB!

The trouble is with those monitors is that they record all the background traffic and handshakes. Even when you've got the computer switch on an not using the Internet there is still traffic in the background from your server asking the network card for it's serial number.

  Dipso 23:12 13 Jan 07

True about the handshakes but 3.89 Gig worth! I presume you have an adequate firewall Jak_1? I would try another monitor and see what that shows.

I realise that Octal, but 8.11 GB on a 512 connection! Even with all the background traffic any system running a 512 connection would be hard pressed to use that much bandwidth in less than 24 hours.

I am using Sygate firewall, Dipso. Just wondering if this is a one off glitch in Tautology as it has never behaved like that in the 18 mpnths I have been using it.

True, is the monitor working properly I wonder. It looks like its got its decimal point in the wrong place.

Probably, I'm sure that Orange would have emailed me by now if my daily usage had been excessive over the month, lol

Thanks for your responses, folks.

Is this IN or OUT?

  VoG II 23:35 13 Jan 07

Ignore me - I cannot read.

Hm, think I know what may have been happening. Have just looked at the logs for the month and each time it shows an excessive amount is on a day that I know I disconnected and re-connected several times without closing down any open windows or re-booting. Have a feeling it may be adding totals together instead of just picking up where it left off. Odd!
