Taskbar vertical at RH side of screen!

My taskbar - and I have no idea how this happened - has suddenly migrated from its usual position at the bottom of my monitor screen to the right hand side of the screen, where it now appears as a vertical column! I can drag this vertical column wider, across the screen, but I can't drag it down (I'd hoped to squash it back into place). Help!

Click on a blank space on the taskbar and hold the mouse down; now drag it to the bottom, top or anywhere you want it! It should go.

Thank you Diodorus Siculus. You are a man of strange and intricate learning.

Do as Diodorus Siculus has said

but before that right click the taskbar first and ensure that the "lock the taskbar" is not ticked
