when i click on my dvd drive then click propertiesthen click general i get the message.[THE NAME D:\ SPECIFIEDINTHE TARGET IS NOT VALID. MAKE SURE THE PATH AND FILE NAME ARE CORRECT] can anyone advise

If the DVD drive is set up properly, the general tab of the properties should open by default containing the really useful info that it is a DVD drive.

It would seem to me that there is something wrong with the installation files.

Suggest you go to Device Manager (in control Panel) and remove the drive there. When you reboot Windows should "find new hardware" and reinstall it properly - you may need your windows CD for this phase.
