Taking out second hard drive

I'm passing my Mesh computer on to a relative, and before I do so I want to remove the second hard drive that I use for backups only.
When I installed the drive, I remember getting the BIOS to detect it. When I remove it do I again have to do something in the BIOS, or can I just physically remove it and the BIOS will sort itself out automatically?

The computer is 5 years old and runs Windows XP.
Any advice would be very welcome please.

Just take it out and the BIOS will adjust, provided that the OS is not on that disk as then the BIOS would have no OS to boot to.
