Systems Sounds but can't play music

  mpearo 17:58 03 Jul 07

The sound stopped working on my PC so I re-installed the microsoft drivers. - After doing this all of the XP system sounds work but I can no longer listen to music from CD or over the internet.

I'm also getting a Generic Host Process for Win32 Services error when starting the PC (XP, SP2).

Any ideas ?

Check your Volume control under Start/Accessories/Entertainment/Volume. It just may be muted

This is a bit of a last ditch attempt, but a repair install of windows should fix the problem, but try everything else first.

Thanks for the help. It turned out that there was a problem with the windows updates that was causing the problem.
