Re installed Windows 98.
Lost serial number for AVG anti virus.
Deleted AVG7 on the computer .
Downloaded AVG6.
Following message comes up during start up.
"Cannot find a device file that may be needed to run Windows or Windows application.
The Windows registry or SYSTEM.INI file refers to this device file, but the device file no longer exists..........etc.
C:PROGRAM~1\GRISOFT\AVG7\AVG7CORE.AXD
I have no problem in running the new downloaded program (AVG6) but the above message keeps coming up during start up.
By pressing enter twice it goes away, it's just annoying.
Can I delete the base file to stop the message appearing?
I have deleted everything associated with AVG7 from the registry.
I cannot find the entry in SYSTEM.INI.
Can anybody help.
Regards.
Ron

You will need to remove entry in the registry relating to AVG7CORE.AXD (although it may be .VXD).

Be very careful and back up the registry before doing anything.

Have you tried looking in the startup items list in msconfig may be in there if it is just untick it and restart should stop it.
