System tray icon missing!

An icon that is always on the system tray keeps disappearing, I have restored it in the past by re-booting the computer. When I go to the properties it is still there and also is as 'always show' but it still will not appear on the system tray. Any idea how to put it back there?

Also, how do I remove old icon no longer in use or even on the computer as they are still in the properties 'customize area'. As always thanks in advance for our help.

The icon if for BitDefender Total Security Suite. I am running XP with service pack 3. HOpe this helps and thanks again for all your support.

Make sure that it is ticked in msconfig. If not there should be something in Bit defender to tick run at start up.Never had B/defender but most security programs have that on them somewhere.
