My system is running on XP home what is the minimum amount of programs running in the system tray I need at startup? And to follow on how do I remove those that are not needed?

Go to start/run/ type msconfig, and look under the start tab. Untick any you don't require to run at bootup. Don't worry they are all still there they just won't load until you want them.

also go to start>all progammes> start up

and see what programmes have "self installed" as start up items.

You can manually delete them as they are only shortcuts
