System Restore in Win XP won't work!

  dave321 11:23 25 Apr 04

When I try and do a system restore my computer re-starts and then I get the following
>message....System restore could not restore. No changes have been made to the system...

I have tried different restore check points up to the most recent checkpoint, but to no avail.

My hard drive is partioned into two drives C (5.85Gb) and D (31.3GB). Windows XP is installed on C in NTFS format, D drive is in FAT 32 format.

Can anyone help?

the problem here might be down to the small amount of space you have allowed for Win XP on your C: drive.

at present a week after a new format/install, my c: drive is a whopping 5.7 gig full.

if you have partition manager, try making drive c: bigger (you will have to reduce drive D: first.

if still not working, insert your winxp cdrom, cancel the autorun.

then click start/run and in the box type

sfc /scannow

press enter, it should restore missing/corrupt system files (takes a while for it to run, so be patient)

Have you also checked that System Restore has not been Disabled?

My Computer>Properties>System Restore tag - check that the disable box has not been checked.

My System Restore is set to use up to three per cent of disk space resources for its operation.
