Try a system recovery.

System Restore shouldn't take more than a few minutes, including the shut down and reboot, to restore to a previous point.

Try My Computer>Properties>Settings>Advance tab>Settings>Advanced tab (again)>Virtual Memory>Change button and set the RAM usage to one-and-a-half times the amount of RAM in your system in both boxes.
