Sorry, but I am not following you...

What is your problem?

Try this, Start, Run, type %SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe and press enter.

Alternatively, have a look here click here

You could try.....

Start->Run and type in "sfc /scannow" (without the quotations, but note the space before /)

You will need your WinXP installation disk handy.

If System Restore does not work, it's corrupt. You can only then turn it off, then restart windows and turn it back on and create a new restore point. All old restore points will have gone

System Restore basically creates new restore points when you alter your Windows XP's basic setup, i.e. install new hardware, remove/add drivers etc.

In answer to your query 'why does it go wrong for so many people?'. I had trouble with 'System Restore'and went to the Microsoft help sites dealing with S/S problems. I found an entry stating that 'Microsoft acknowledges there is a problem with S/S which has not as yet been resolved'.

Regards,

cymbo.
