can you create a restore point manually?is it enabled in control panel/system/system restore?if so.

check control panel/administrative tools/services and set system restore service to automatic.double click it and choose from auto/manual or disable in the drop down box.restart the computer after changing the start up type.

Have you tried the obvious? Right click on My Computer, make sure that 'Make sure system restore is turned off on all drives' box is unticked, then reboot.

BTW, System Restore isn't the greatest or most reliable gadget. My advice is to get Drive Image. Best £40-worth I ever spent.

Not unusual. XP restore often does not work.
