system memory allocation failed

When starting computer i get the following message just after the splash screen of windows 98

While initializing Device IOS:
ERROR: Real Mode System Memory Allocation Failed

can start in safe mode but haven't a clue what to do

Start in Safe Mode Command Prompt Only

at the C:> prompt, type


and press Enter.

Something screwed-up in the registry (who knows how, these things happen). That command restores it to a working state. Did it fix the problem?
