System File Check in XP

Requires Operating System Disc to be inserted in PC to be carried out. As we now have SP2 installed, is there any point in 'sfc /scannow' being used as a trouble-shooting exercise? There is after all a 3-4 year gap between the original XP OS and the SP2 update. Or have Microsoft cleverly done the biz in the update that still makes the check valid?

I would leave well alone, only use as a last resort, if you do not have a Image of your Hard Drive

But I installed XP Pro for my neighbour the other day after a format of the drive, it was the first version, [No service pack].

I then installed SP2 from the CD and it only took 15 minutes to upgrade. Not sure if this helps you in any way. j.

Been trying to find the answer to this for a week or so now. I read somewhere that when SP2 is installed, the .inf files, (the ones that tell SFC where to get copies from), are modified so that SFC goes to the ServicePack Folder first to find the relevant files. (The ServicePack Folder is inside the Windows Folder.)

Still hoping for a definitive answer.

Or make a slipstreamed Cd and use that?

Curio.

I just put the question to Microsoft Support and they advised that sfc /scannow will still be effective after installing SP2.

The SP2 Support link, if you want to get it from the horse's mouth, is click here;en-us;Prodoffer80&sd=GN
