try safe mode "last known good config" first

or

safe mode with command prompt.

which is what you need.

Tried both and no luck, I can hear a click whislt the hard drive/fan is running then what I think is the hard drive or fan shutting down

The error message is hardware related but is not specific to a particular problem it maybe your CPU fan that is u/s causing overheating hence the shutdown of your PC.
Fans are cheap and simple to replace it may be an idea to start there..

would the fan prevent the pc from starting when cold ??

  SANTOS7 19:07 22 Feb 07

Not really, which gets me to another possible, which is your HDD maybe u/s,
what you could do is disconnect HDD boot PC and see if it runs

how do i disconnect HDD boot PC and see if it runs

scrap that bit for a mo,
if you have an XP cd (assuming your o/s is XP)
put disc in drive . Boot from CD into Repair Console. Enter chkdsk /r and see what happens
