System config utility...found this in it help plea

Hi all,

whilst just having a mooch around my PC I have come across 4 ticked squares in the system config utility that do not show what program they are for.

The location section is empty and the location section shows either 'HKCU\software\microsoft\windowsNT\current...' or 'HKCU\software\microsoft\windows\current ver...'

I am running XPhome with AVG,Spy Blaster s&d,AdawareSE,Microsoft antispyware, A-squared,Stinger a cwshredder. All all show clear.

So what are these 4 ticked boxes loading at startup and should I be worried?

I seem to remember a free program that lists everything thats running when your PC boots up but cannot remember what its called anyone know the 1 I mean ?

Task Manager shows about 20030 things running.

Untick them and see what is affected, Start up Inspector is perhaps the program you are looking for.click here

Hi all, unticked them and run pc nothing seems different. Downloaded and ran 'Startup Inspector' as suggested. Nothing other than the programs already listed in system config utility showed up.

Now off to run hijack this.

complete novice here but i see that hkcu refers to h-key current user on the registry.....when i look up those keys on my pc via regedit they show me the items that i have ticked to run in my start up list...looking thru your log the hkcu entries show something referring to 'agnitum' where a file is missing.....have you ever had agnitum outpost firewall installed? if so have you since deleted it? maybe it was listed and ticked to run at start up but you've since deleted the program so the start up list can't show what was there by name, just where it was?

prob waaay of course but i was intrigued!

have stumbled across this; will ask Nellie2 if she would mind taking a look for you ::)) suggest you change nowt until her expert eye has seen it:)

  gudgulf 09:19 19 Apr 05

It would be a very good idea to download and run ccleaner click here

Use it to remove loads of junk and temporary files and then use the "scan for issues" function.Fix all that it finds (you can make a backup with it just in case). This will shift all manner of references to old programs/start up entries/duff registry keys. When you have done this create a new Hijack This log and have a look in your system config utility once more and see if the unknown entries are still there.

suggest you do nowt until nellie has reviewed the log for you::))

Good idea gudgulf. This will get rid of a lot of junk. ;-)
