My wife had a pop-up said to be from Symantec sayig "you are not protected agaiist a threat which is affecting computers world wide Etc." and offering two answer fields "OK and "Protect me".

This pop-up has not come up on my computer.

Is it genuine?

Norton 2005 perhaps?

There's a setting called Outbreak Alert that when enabled will pop-up with exactly the message you describe- it's a small window in the lower right-hand side of the screen.

If this is what you're getting then don't worry about it.

i have NIS 2005 and i ALWAYS ONLY get this alert on a FRIDAY evening about 630pm.

Click on More Info and it will take you to the OUTBREAK ALERT screen in NIS and will tell you what outbreak virus you are unprotected from. Install the virus updtaes and carry on as usual!!!!

Strange though as i have Auto LiveUpdate available and it updates on a Wednesday but i ONLY EVER get the alert on a FRIDAY EVENING.
