Swop O/S on two PC's

  ruskle 20:16 09 Feb 08

I have XP on the desktop and Vista on the laptop. I have an external HD and have backed up both machines using Acronis.
Is it possible, without cocking both machines up, to restore both machines the other way round. XP to laptop and Vista to desktop. I prefer XP on the lappy.

If these OSes are OEM versions then swapping them over would be a breach of the licence and swapping then probably won't work anyway even if you could move the install partitions between the machines as the licence key may well be locked to the motherboard ID string.

The drivers will also be wrong as they will be for the equipment in the "other" machine.

OK chaps,
Thanks for the repiles, yes both OS,s were installed on the PC's when I bought them and are genuine and registered ( whatever it is called) with Microsoft. I will leave things alone as I use them both for our small family firm and don't want to cause problems.

Thanks again,
