swapping harddrives!

I am about to buy a new laptop for the kids, its a toshiba running vista premium. I have an Acer aspire running xp pro, and I was wondering what problems I might have if I were to swap the hard drives so the Acer machine (which is capable of running Vista premium) had the drive with Vista on it.

Problems galore!
Think of each PC as a unique collection of hardware.
Both the XP Pro and the Vista machines are currently "locked in" to their installed OS.

Neither will run with the other's HD which has its own motherboard signature and both systems would cease to be activated if booted in the the other "box"

Even with 2000 or an earlier OS when activation was not required, would probably not boot because of chipset and other differences.

Ah well i thought it was too good an idea, i did quailfy for a free upgrade to vista, but dont get me started on that shambles.
