Also, in general, you can set your AV options to keep a copy of deleted files in a quarantine folder.

If a vital file is ever deleted, you can restore from quarantine.

Don't think you should in this case.

I have quite a few svchost.exe running but no svc.exe. This could have been a trojan.

  computerdiv 13:23 14 Jan 11

sorry my mistake with the file name it is infact svchost.exe.my issues are now as follows;

slow to boot issue
no start menu
unable to use system restore
unable to use antivirus scanners adaware,malwarebytes.

I can access task manager and tried the above programs using this method.

Do I have to reload the svchost.exe file from winxp recovery disc?

Most of us aren't qualified to read or advise on a HighjackThis log. You'll need to join a specialist forum for this. Quite a few around if you search for 'malware removal specialist' forums'.
You don't state what Operating System you have so here goes;
XP, need disc, run, type sfc /scannow (space between 'c' and '/' important
Vista and Win 7, in start search bar type 'cmd' without the quote marks.
In list right click CMD and select 'Run as administrator'.
Type sfc /scannow (space between 'c' and '/' is important.

Once run it might state that some files have been repaired (hopefully).
Type 'exit' with ought the quotation marks.

'with ought', blooming spell checkers. Should be 'without' .... apologies.
