SuSE Linux 6.2 laptop woes

I have an Advent 6412 laptop, which houses a Sis630 chipset. For a bit of a mess around and curiosity I bought a copy of SuSE Linux Unleashed, which comes with a copy of distribution 6.2. I have installed it all but now I'm having problems with configuring it. I cannot for the life of me get the screen resolution correct, none of the GUI interfaces fit on the screen. This is infuriating as it's the only thing stopping me from getting further with the system. I know Linux is a little jumpy when it comes to laptops, but I hope there is a way around this. Can anyone give any advice?

Before we start delving into the nuts and bolts here, can you just confirm the version number of SuSE for me again please ?

If it is version 6.2 I need to know for certain as this can quite seriously affect the possible solutions.
