Sub £100 PC?

  Pesala 20:00 07 Feb 03

My room-mate has is new to computers and needs a PC to learn on. He needs a CD drive for dictionaries and other reference works.

I reckon Pentium II + 64 Mbytes + 1 Gbyte HD + Windows 98SE should be adequate, but don't want to give him unlicensed software. At least the OS should be legal. I can find plenty of good Freeware like Open Office, Irfan View, etc.

Am I being unrealistic? Local dealer wants £125 without any licensed software.

You'll be shopping on places like ebay or the local paper for anything under £100.

Good specs. Might be OK, but he will need a monitor too, then delivery. A bit much to expect.

Pesala, if the price is £50-00, then a new monitor can be bougt for less than £100-00 and a good used one for £50-00. I think this would make a very good buy. J.

I am upgrading my old tower system for my dad, on which i am placing the pc chips motherboard - (myself i have a nice ASUS A7N8X one in mine running the XP 2000 with 2 sticks of 512Mb PC 3200 DDR) he's never used a pc beofre so i am building him one, and using the pc chips one for him. But for £299 its not a bad deal though.
