Stuck key on Sony Vaio laptop

  Chelonian 12:58 28 Jul 07

I've had a look through the database but I can't find an answer.
My laptop (Sony Vaio with Windows XP Home) displays a black screen on boot up with the error message: Stuck Key. The laptop will boot if I press F1.
The 'J' key on the laptop no longer functions although all other keys are fine and the laptop works okay apart from the problem with the 'J' key.
Is there a simple fix for this problem? I don't know much about computers so I'm hoping that someone can help me out. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Try tapping the key lightly to see if this will dislodge any thing that may be jamming the key. Or you could buy a small can of compressed air and give it a blast with that.

Taking a laptop keyboard apart is quite fiddly and if you don't feel confident I would be wary.

Some people use a vaccum cleaner to suck out crumbs etc. I am always wary about that as it can cause static. Then again may work.
