I bought halflife two recently and have found my pc unable to run it despite it having twice the recommended specs..

What can i do to speed it up?

I have already
-Disabled any unnecessary processes in the background (thru processes.msc)
-Disabled any stem trya icons i dont need from starting
-Disabled any other programs
-Turned off XP's graphical niceties

Thanks in advance

The specs according to the bac kof the case are

win xp/me/2k/98
1.2ghz processor
256meg ram
dx7 compatible graphics card
4.5gb hdd space
Internet connection
DVD ROM drive

I have 2.4ghx cpu
winxp
256meg ram
geforce 2 mx
over 100gigsd uncompressed hdd space
an internet connection
the program is installed to the hard drive, it does not run from the cd drive.

Thanks for the link, but its a general problem as ive been noticing it runnign a lot slower anyway generally. (generally has problems running music and a program at the same time...)

Any ideas

it appears to be your gfx card. geforce2 mx don`t appear to support dx9c.

  ahales42 02:16 01 Jan 05

oh. the specs on the box usually bear no relation to the actuall specs needed to run the game properly.

  Smegs 02:17 01 Jan 05

click here According to this site, your ram is the minimum required.

  LinuxPenguin 02:44 01 Jan 05

Cheers for that. Ill buy another ram stick, about time really... Thanks for your help

btw that page also says that the game can run on a dx7 card.

anyway thx v. much and happy new year

  ahales42 03:29 01 Jan 05

sorry, but it still won`t work properly. here`s an example: i play asheron`s call 2. the min specs are "win 2000/xp/me/98. proc 733mhz. 2gb HD. gxf 32mb with hardware T&L. here is the reality. amd 2500 proc, 1gb mem, geforce 5700. and it only runs well on medium.. if you want to play hf2 then you need a new gfx card minimum.
