Strange problem in Excel-97

  Strangely Brown 19:22 16 Sep 04

We are running Excel 97 SR-2 at home and we have a bit of a funny one with some of our files. When we open Excel and then access a saved spreadsheet everything is fine.

However, if we access the saved file via a shortcut on the desktop then we get the following message:-

"A document with the name xxx is already open. You cannot open two documents with the same name, even if the documents are in different folders."

I might be barking up the wrong tree but is this some kind of timing issue. We're running this version of excel on a reasonably fast machine with XP as the OS. The spreadsheet appears to be trying to open very, very quickly. Could this in any way be causing it to get confused? Or is it something completely different?

Not a major problem, just an irritation. Hope you can help.
