Strange Happenings in NIS and system settings

I have NIS loaded on and was working fine. Sudenly it will not load on startup. When i change the setting to 'load on startup' it does not accept them - no reason, no message. So I tried to reinstall it and I get the message saying i need to be a 'supervisor' to install it. Strange as my account is the only System Administrator type on the PC.

Anyone any ideas?

Am running XP home as well
