Stop Photoshop Checking External Drives?

  Roadgiant 21:19 18 Nov 08

I am using Photoshop CS2, I also have 2 external H/drives and when I start Photoshop up it takes about 3 minutes to become usable.
I have realised that what is taking the time is that PS is checking the external drives (I noticed that the lights on both Ex drives were flickering after PS is opened and it was only after the lights stopped that PS is usable).
I did a full format and XP reinstall about a month ago and I am sure this didn't use to happen before then.
Is there a setting somewhere to disable this either in PS or Adobe Bridge?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Turn the drives off when you have shut your computer down, only turn them on when needed. Photoshop will continue to check the drives as you have been using them in Photoshop. It just the same if you open a floppy disc with a file on it, Next time you go to Open it will first check the floppy disc, and you have to press cancel it the way windows works
