I have a new machine with windows xp and IE6. Everytime I start internet explorer I have to go to the view menu to switch on the status bar. can not find any way to keep it permanently on. Its very annoying as it was always on by default on every other version I've ever had

Thanks
stephen

do you mean the bar at the top or at the bottom?

In the view menu, it's the second item down. If you untick it the bottom bar disappears.

To rescue your Status Bar:

1) Click Start > Run, to bring up the Run Dialog.

2) Type C: and click Ok to open the Explorer at C:\ .

3) Click View > Status Bar to show the status bar in the Explorer window.

4) Click Tools > Folder Options.

5) Click the View tab.

6) Click the Apply to all folders button.

Thank you so much for that as it's been a minor irritation for me for months :o)

In IE, View and tick Status bar then CTRL and close (X).

Open My Computer, View and check that Status bar is ticked.

Then Tools/Folder options, View tab and click Apply to all folders button.
