Startup Unsuccessful

  modumus 19:50 03 May 03

My PC knowledge is pretty limited, as is evident from my query!

When i load up Windows XP an error message appears saying:

"A file is damaged which prevents this software from starting properly....To solve this problem, go to our web site and download the latest version...."

But the error message doesn't tell me what software has this damaged file or the web site.

How can i find or filter out which software program on my PC is the root of the problem?

Any help please??????

It may be one of the programs that start up with Windows from msconfig.
You could try disabling each one in turn till the culprit shows itself[ie by not getting the message on startup]
To see them go to start/run type in msconfig go to Startup to disbale untick the box[to enable retick box]
