startup stops

New PC with AMD Athlon XP2200+, ATI Radeon 8500LE, DVI, TFT. Sometimes it starts OK but at other times it seems to start then the screen shows the 'DVI Power Save mode' message and goes blank. No response from the system at all and I have to restart once or twice. Any ideas? Answers in words of one syllable please as I'm a novice.

Check your DVI power save settings.

Does your monitor 'go to sleep' when there is no signal? If so, how long have you set that for?

Does this happen when you first turn the PC on, or when you 'wake it'?
