startup programs and the System Tray

When I start up my computer my system tray gets cluttered with 14+ icons of startup programs that start on startup (bit of a tongue twister =p)! Could anybody recommend a decent startup control panel or something like that that can help me stop all of these programs cluttering up my processor's breathing space!
BTW: Mike Lins startup control panel is VERY confusing to me... :(

try accessing the properties of each item and untick 'run when i open windows' or similar
