Startup problems XP Pro

I have an Evesham PC OS XP Pro with 2 HDD fitted
C. 30Gb D. 60Gb.
For some weeks now I have had problems booting up. Sometimes the startup stops with the following messages onscreen:-
1. "ULTRA BIOS is not installed because there are no drives attached"
2 "Boot disk failure, insert system disk & press enter"
Most times after 2 or 3 resarts the PC boots up OK.I have checked all cables and connections and all appear OK.
I have now reached the point where the PC will not start and the system does have any effect.
Any suggestions please?

1. "ULTRA BIOS is not installed because there are no drives attached"

Assuming drives are PATA on same IDE cable, I would be inclined to fit a new IDE ribbon cable. L:ooks like not seeing either drive.

2 "Boot disk failure, insert system disk & press enter"

This fault looks like can't see just the master drive with the op system on. Same remedy plus also check the jumper settings master and slave are correct and one is not set to CS cable select.
