every time i start up my computer, i can log on fine, but once explorer.exe loads, it freezes. i can run task manager via CTRL+ALT+DEL, shut down explorer.exe, then the computer unfreezes and i can run things from task manager. if i try to reload explorer.exe, the same thing occur. i've tried freeing up memory, i've scanned for spyware and even safemode froze. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a recovery disk or some form of recovery partition? If not, you will have very limited options.
