When I start my PC (Win98). I get all sorts of problems. A box apears looking for all sorts of "missing shortcuts" such as morse.exe and 0GCF0DC2.exe.
If I press Cont+Alt+Del. There are loads of unusual items in the "close program box".
I have tried going into msconfig and unchecking all these items that end in .exe (there are about 10. But when I restart the computer, they reappear. Any ideas????

sounds like a virus. have you tried running System File Checker from Start\Run With your Win98 Disc in the comp stop the auto load of CD then in Run Box type SFC and press enter to look for corrupt files

Haven't got a 98 CD mate. I was hit with a virus that I thought had been cleaned, AVG says there ain't one now.

Have you checked in Explorer to see if you have win Cab files number of files go all the way up to 78

  woodchip 21:30 02 Apr 04

sorry 74

  Rogerthedog 21:40 02 Apr 04

how do I do that (sorry I'm not exactly an expert)
I opened Windows Explorer - should I look for a folder titled Cabfiles?

  woodchip 21:48 02 Apr 04

If you go to start button find\files or folders and type *.Cab and see if it finds the number above there will be a cab 74 if you have them

Fraid not. ound 185 files in all, most of them zip files. Nothing entitled Cab.

Then you cannot run SFC as it ask's for the WinCD to restore corrupt files. you need a disc

PS you can borrow one if you have a good friend to run SFC

I know where I can get one - thanks for trying to help.
