startup freezes in dos

during start up my nephews computer freezes in
dos and message says file missing SYSTEM.INI FILES
program using this file deleted or missing
then it says CDA INT 2F.VXD press any key to
continue after pressing key it contiues and everything seems to work ok--- we have tried using
win98 disc but no cure can anyone help please

Get a registry cleaner - try the Microsoft one, or the one from click here

There was likely a program uninstalled and a reference left in the system.ini file.

You can also manually edit this file - just open it in a text editor and put a semicolon at the start of any line that mentions the missing file.

Or even check if the file is in the bin - if so, restore it.

This is a bit knotty to solve at a distance, as any of many devices might be trying to load this file. When the system is running, use explorer to find the system.ini file, and open it with Notepad, then look through it for the file CDAint2F.vxd.

Try and post back the section where you find the file, and the other drivers above and below it.
