Startup disc checking

  Magic VI 09:17 08 Nov 03

Laptop, 60G hard drive partitioned with C= W XP Pro; D= Software; E= Files; and F= Spare.
Every time I start up the machine insists it needs to check drive D. It never finds any faults. I cannot use defrag without first scheduling a startup check. Whatever I do I can never find any bad sectors orproblems with the partition.
I have had a look in Scheduler and there is nothing there.

The chances are its a rouge Registry Entry

Click Start >Run >type "regedit" {enter}

Navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager

Double click the "BootExecute" value, and remove autocheck autochk /d *

If this dosnt clear the problem you may well have a problem with your Hard Drive go to the manifacturers website for diagnostic tools

But as always with Editing the Registry back it up first.

Thank you AndySD.
I followed your instructions and on restart it made no checks - relief.
Thanks again
