Startpage Virus

  marchbryant 17:00 23 May 04

I have got the startpage virus on my PC and I cannot work out how to lose it. AVG antivirus detects it and quarantines it (I thought!) but it constantly returns after being on the net for a while.
I am using windows ME.
Can anybody advise me on how to get rid of this very irritating virus once and for all?

The following instructions pertain to all current and recent Symantec antivirus products, including the Symantec AntiVirus and Norton AntiVirus product lines.

1. Disable System Restore (Windows Me/XP).

2. Update the virus definitions.

3. Restart the computer in Safe mode or VGA mode.

4. Run a full system scan and delete all the files detected as Trojan.StartPage.

5. Delete the value that was added to the registry.

6. Reset the Internet Explorer home page.

Thaks for the prompt reply. I have done all of the above but I find none of those values in the registry. Does that mean it has gone. I have gone through this a couple of times and it keeps coming back.
I am pulling my hair out here!
