Start Service Problems

  pj3 12:20 25 Nov 07

Sometimes I get the following error messages on start up - doesn't seem to be pattern as to when.
'The Service Database is locked' and
'Can't Start Kernel Mode Driver Service'
When I click on the 'OK' after each message the computer appears to work normally.
What is causing this, and what effect does it have on the operation of my PC?
Grateful if someone could help.

XP Pro SP2
Intel Core Duo 2666MHZ
Gigabyte P35C-DS3R

If you don't get this error when you start in Safe Mode, try running MSConfig (Sart-Run-msconfig) Click on the "Services" tab. Tick the box for "Hide All Microsoft services. Disable all the remaining services, OK out of the System Configuration Utility and restart. If the problem has gone, restart the System Configuration Utility and put the tick in the box to re-enable the most important services - starting with the antivirus ones. Restart the computer. Keep doing this until you find which application is the culprit.
