Start up problems in Windows XP Pro

  Cocazowl 10:43 04 Jun 05

When I first start up after the splash screen and after seeing my desktop, I get a blue screen and the following info:
Stop, error Ox0000008E (OxC0000005,0x806ED134,0xF4292924,0x00000000)
When I press the reset button the PC boots up OK. Can anyone help cure this annoying problem?

I think you may have a trojon on your computer, according to the 0x000000008E if you would like to click here
you can download the free A2 Trojan hunter and also learn how to use and install it.

The 0xC0000005 bit indicates it's a driver or memory problem.

Post the full error message.

Thanks for help so far. Trojan remover found 5 infected files but problem still not cured.
No new drivers added.
Memory seems OK (512k on board)
Any more suggestions?

Driver problem

Have you installed any new equipment lately?

New graphices card, card reader, Ipod?

Check all your drivers are the latest spec.

If the worst comes to the worst, you can "Repair" XP Pro and then reinstall SP2 without losing any hard drive data.

You should boot from your XP Pro CD-ROM (don't forget to check that you will boot from CD in the Bios first) and then choose Install. You will shortly be asked if you wish to continue to install or go to the Recovery Console. Select Install again.

Again, soon afterwards, you will have the choice of Repair or continuing to install. Select Repair this time.

You will need your XP Pro Product Number so have it ready.

Once XP Pro has been repaired, you can then reinstall SP2.

The whole process will take around an hour or perhaps a little more.

How about posting the error message in full?

Also, have a look in Event Viewer.

You should see a red symbol.

Right click it and select Properties, what does it say there?

Problem resolved - thanks to Stuartli. All is now fine!
