hi,

my friend's having problems starting up his laptop. when he turns it on he just receives the following:

'Warning: Windows has detected a registry/configuration error.
Choose Safe mode, to start Windows with a minimal set of drivers.

The following file is missing or corrupted: C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
The following file is missing or corrupted: C:\WINDOWS\DBLBUFF.SYS
The following file is missing or corrupted: C:\WINDOWS\IFSHLP.SYS
HIMEM.SYS is missing.
Make sure that the file is in your Windows directory.

Windows has stopped. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to restart your computer.'

safe mode didn't seem to work either. can anybody help me fix this problem?

thanks in advance.

p.s. the laptop doesn't have internet access

It does look a bit involved but I hope you find it of some use.
