can someone tell me how i make a startup disc in windows XP pro.

Don't do that. Just go to click here and download the one you require. Make sure your computer is set to start from "Floppy Disk" first in your BIOS though in case you need to use it.

i can boot from the cdrom but it asks for automated recovery discs where can i get these.

I don't think it does...

I think it asks if you want to run the automated recovery disc in which case you say Yes and it runs it from the CD. Or at least thats what i understood this morning...

when it comes on the screen it says please insert the windows automated recovery disc in the floppy drive, i pressed return a few times but the same screen keeps coming back, what will happen if i run setup again.

i have let it try to run setup again, and it gave me the option to repair, that is running now and we will see what happens, the other repair option gives a number of commands but does not seem that friendly

iwas it has now reloaded windows and seems to be ok will try it out and let you know what happens
